  4. PURPOSE:  To provide a medium of exchange for buyers and sellers,
  5. commercial and/or non-commercial, to buy and sell computer hardware,
  6. software, and peripherals.

  19. What is allowed:
  20.  
  21. Hardware: All computer platforms acceptable.  IBM, Apple, Atari, 
  22. Amiga, etc.  Even an AS/400 is okay :-).  Contrary to Madison Avenue
  23. Nintendo, Sega, Atari Jaguar, etc., are _NOT_ computers (at least for
  24. the purposes of COMPUSALE). 
  25.  
  26. Software: All software acceptable EXCEPT any software that contains
  27. pornographic images or text.  This *especially* means XXX CD-ROMs.
  28. Posting of such items for sale is NOT allowed.  This is not a moral
  29. issue, but rather a legal one. Continued posting of such items for
  30. sale and/or trade *will* result in action being taken by moderator.
  31.  
  32. Also, any illegal or "pirated" software will not be allowed. Any
  33. person posting such software for sale will be reported to the appro-
  34. priate law enforcement agency.
  35.  
  36. Peripherals and accessories: All types acceptable.  Use your own
  37. judgement.
  38.  
  39. What is NOT allowed:
  40.        
  41. Illegal activities of ANY kind will not be tolerated, and persons
  42. involving themselves in such are subject to being reported to the
  43. appropriate law-enforcement agencies.  This includes chain letters,
  44. "mailing lists," pyramid schemes, "900" or "976" numbers.
  45.  
  46. Off-topic messages or threads.  Everyone gets a little off-topic
  47. every now and then.  We understand that.  However, repeated off-
  48. topic messages or threads are annoying.  If you receive a message
  49. informing you of an off-topic message or thread, or a message
  50. asking you to cease a thread, please do so without argument.
  51. This echo costs the SysOps money to distribute, so your cooperation~  is
  52. appreciated.

  54. Foul and/or obscene language is absolutely uncalled for and *will*
  55. result in action being taken by moderator.
  56.  
  57. Alias or "Handle" names are NOT to be used in this echo.  Real names
  58. only.  This is to protect the individual callers as well as the echo
  59. in general.  Accurate FIRST and LAST names are required.  If the BBS
  60. from which you are calling uses aliases, and you use one on that BBS,
  61. you _must_ include your first _and_ last names in the body of your
  62. message.
  63.  
  64. Modification of quoted messages is EXPRESSLY FORBIDDEN.
  65.  
  66. All systems entering messages into COMPUSALE should display a valid
  67. and complete node address.
  68.  
  69. Mailer problems such as origin stripping and duping are annoying and
  70. are grounds for severing of link.
  71.  
  72. English is the official language of FidoNet, and it is the official
  73. language of COMPUSALE as well.  Other languages are acceptable, pro-
  74. vided the poster of the message provides a full (and correct) English
  75. translation in the message.
  76.  
  77. High-ASCII is no longer allowed in COMPUSALE.  It has been too badly
  78. abused.  "For Sale" artwork, graphics, and borders are not allowed.~   They are
  79. costly to transmit and are redundant in a for-sale-only area.
  80.  
  81. Excessive quoting is excessively annoying.  Please refrain from it.
  82. Quoting tearlines, taglines, and origin lines, without good cause,
  83. should not be done.   
  84.  
  85. ALL CAPS messages are frowned upon.  All caps is considered shout-
  86. ing, and should be unnecessary here.

  92. Your participation is welcome and encouraged.  Please, however,
  93. adhere to the following guidelines when posting your advertisements
  94. and messages:
  95.  
  96. Please do not post the same ad more than once every seven days,
  97. unless a price or product change has occurred. This is one of those
  98. things that causes some people to skip your posts without reading
  99. them -- and is somewhat irritating to others.
  100.  
  101. Please post prices. "Call for Current Pricing" results in someone
  102. debating whether or not they should call you, and the result is
  103. often a wasted long-distance phone call and/or a lost sale. "Prices
  104. subject to change" is usually good enough. It doesn't cost anything
  105. to post here and you may repost your ad _with changes_ on a more
  106. frequent basis (see above).  It is a good idea to make the first
  107. line of your message something like "Last revised 11/4/93".
  108.  
  109. Please post a phone number, terms of sale, if tax applies to the
  110. sale, etc.  Do you accept credit cards, checks, COD, money order,
  111. is shipping included?  These things are important to your potential
  112. customers.

  118. Anyone who persists in violation of these guidelines will be
  119. subject to the following:
  120.  
  121. 1) Warning in the echo.  If this is heeded, no further action
  122. should be necessary.
  123.  
  124. 2) Second warning in the echo AND a netmail message.  If this
  125. occurs, please cease all activities in violation of guidelines.
  126.  
  127. 3) Third warning in the echo, a netmail message to you and to
  128. your sysop.  At this point, you have shown your unwillingness
  129. to abide by the guidelines and your choice to ignore warnings
  130. given previously.  You will be asked to voluntarily cease your
  131. participation in the echo for a period of time to be determined
  132. by moderator.
  133.  
  134. 4) Fourth warning.  Your access will be severed, period, at
  135. whatever level it becomes necessary to do so.  You will banned
  136. from the echo for a period of time to be determined by moderator.
  137.  
  138. The only exception to the above process is FLAMING of a user or
  139. a moderator in the echo, making SLANDEROUS or LIBELOUS statements,
  140. or the use of profanity in the echo.  This will result in immediate
  141. action.
  142.  
  143. NOTE:  The moderator reserves all rights to make decisions regarding
  144. what is topical for discussion, what constitutes FLAMING, SLANDER, and
  145. LIBEL in the echo, and what actions to take against persons abusing
  146. their privileges in this echo.

  169. rules.  Those who don't think they can comply should take their mess-

  180. If you've had a deal arranged here go bad; if you feel like you've
  181. been cheated, or if you really *have* been cheated, I would suggest
  182. that you try to resolve the problem via NetMail with the other party
  183. before dragging it into the echo.

  185. However, if you have been cheated, I'd like to know about it, so I 
  186. can keep track of those people who might be "suspect."  Please NetMail~  me at
  187. 1:387/31.110.  I don't want to become a mediator for disputes, 
  188. however.

  190. Remember: EchoMail is a privilege, not a "right".
